XPRIZE Quantum Applications: Prize Key Messaging
As part of the XPRIZE team, I led the messaging strategy for the Quantum Applications prize — working alongside Google Quantum AI and GESDA to develop a communications framework for a first-of-its-kind competition.
The prize needed to speak to quantum researchers, technologists, policy makers, funders, and the general public without losing scientific credibility. My role was to build the messaging foundation that held across every touchpoint: prize launch communications, partner alignment, press materials, and public-facing assets.
The Challenge
Quantum computing sits at the intersection of theoretical physics and applied engineering — deeply technical, largely misunderstood, and prone to hype. The prize needed messaging accurate enough to satisfy expert stakeholders, accessible enough to generate press coverage, and compelling enough to attract applicants and sponsors at a global scale.
The Approach
Rather than defaulting to jargon or oversimplified analogies, I developed a layered messaging framework — a clear core narrative with modular language that could be adapted for each audience segment, giving every stakeholder a consistent, credible story they could speak to confidently.
01 Core Narrative Development
Defined the prize's "why" in a way that worked for a scientist, a policy maker, and a journalist equally — grounding quantum's potential in concrete, near-term applications rather than speculative promise.
02 Audience-Segmented Messaging
Built distinct messaging tracks for technical audiences (researchers, applicants), institutional stakeholders (sponsors, government partners), and general audiences (press, public) — each sharing the same foundation with adapted framing and vocabulary.
03 Partner Alignment Across Organizations
Coordinated with communications leads at Google Quantum AI and GESDA to reconcile different institutional voices, review processes, and audience expectations into a single coherent framework.
04 Launch & Press Materials
Translated the messaging framework into press-ready materials — prize announcements, spokesperson talking points, and copy for public-facing digital assets used across the launch campaign.
